Roasted the clutch :(
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:46:50 AM »

Crowds of people screaming for burnouts, cries of LOOK AT THAT MAZDA, children with big grins and grown men with video cameras.  How could I resist?  Hell, even my wife was egging me on, grinning from ear to ear!

So I was hoping to go beat up on some Porsches next weekend at their annual club autocross, but not sure if the old girl can do it right now.  I'll take her for a drive tomorrow and see how she feels in the low gears, but she's slipping noticeably in 5th.

The weekend after that I'll have two, maybe three additional drivers.  Gotta have the clutch swapped out by then.  Tough doing this shit with a busted foot though, along with working 10 hour days, 90 minutes of drive time, wife, kids, dogs, etc.  Sad

Well, that sucks. Temptation is a little bitch isn't she.
Something a little more race worthy might be the right choice for you.

Find out if anyone got some photos of you roasting the Sumi's. That's a pic I would like to see.

There were quite a few people who got video of the burnouts, so I'll keep an eye out on youtube...

I've got a shit load of videos to upload, but haven't even looked at them yet.  Worn out.

YOU caved to highschoolish burnamania?
OMG! Tongue

...and what's this busted foot shit about? Did I miss something, or did I just forget because I'm old?

lol. been on crutches for 8 weeks now, with a removable cast.
Doc says I can take it off to sleep, shower, and drive.
But after 7 weeks the bone still isn't healing, and he's all excited
about the chance to go in and cut it out.  Sad

I'm trying a few other things to get it to heal now, including
what is called a "bone stimulator" (and no, it does not include a tall blond).

I want it to heal, not have it removed.  The bone is in the ball of my foot, called a sesamoid.  Sucks.

And yes, I caved to burnomania.  Once those little teenagers started showing their boobies, I was done for.  Smiley

Update:

Finally starting to get back to this project, and I need to get her ready for the trip to North Carolina in a few weeks.  I have a lightweight steel flywheel on the way, which will go along with the Exidy clutch that I already purchased last fall.

Then I need to pull the gas tank to identify/repair a nasty left turn leak, and install my new front struts (race version of Illuminas).  I've also got some heim joint rear links to install, a whole lot of cleaning, some simplification and cleaning up of the wiring system, and about a hundred other things. lol.

I hope to have her on the road within a couple of weeks so that I'll have at least two weeks to give her a shakedown and work out any bugs before the 800 mile (each way) trip to DGRRX.

So, like I said, wish me luck. Smiley

That flywheel should make her pretty peppy on the Dragon.

Good luck.

Oh that's no good. Then he won't be able to cruise the autocrosses in style.
