hi, my name is jon and i hail from a tiny little place called england, some of you may have heard of it. although i work as a mechanic i have very little rotary knowledge and its my brothers fault i love all things Mazda, hes been a Mazda dealer mechanic for 20 years but does not do much any 7 or much 8 work. i have 2 kids who both hate my 2 Rx7's and love my other half's Citroen synergie 2.0 hdi?Huh???.
i got my fd a few years ago standard and through some minor mods its now at 360bhp still running twins.
just got my 83 series 3 after swapping it for a Mitsubishi fto(yuk).

Hiya, Jon. Welcome abroad (j/k!).
Whereabouts in England? I stayed in Camberwell once for eight months. Got to know my way round London pretty well. Also went to Andover & stayed with friends a few times during my stay.

Hey guys,

I am an old rotor head with a '79 that I bought new in '78. I recently retired from 30 years as a State Trooper, so I am an official "Old Guy".
I have two grown children and one grandaughter and am 52 yoa.

About 12 or 13 years ago I rebuilt my aging car and went through it extensively, I will post some pics soon.
I am now in the process of updating the steering, and suspension systems that I recently found at ReSpeed.

As soon as I get that completed my next problem is a small, but persistant tendancy to stumble and that is why I am here, to decide whether to keep the side draft Mikunee carb I have now or to try the Sterling Nikki. I have the Mikunee on a street ported 13B and have a rather extensive collection  of jets, emulsion tubes etc that I have collected during my effort to learn how to tune the carb, I am not sure if my biggest problem is my pea brain, my ignition, the carb or what. I am self taught and sometimes not a good learner!

I am not very experienced with forums but will try to avoid being a blithering idiot, but I can't make any garantees.

Welcome to the club. Smiley

A lot of people have found that they can be happy with the Mikuni type carbs.  I've never tried one myself, because I got my Sterling and it did everything I needed it to do, so well in fact that I've never even looked at or considered other carbs.  I think you've got a couple of options; either find an expert on that carb and get it working, or sell it off (there are always suckers, er I mean potential buyers, out there) and get a Sterling.  I love the smooth driveability of mine, and the kick in the pants when the secondaries kick in.  The biggest complaint I hear about the mikunis is that, since they are a two barrel carb, they are not very smooth when it comes to driveability.

Excellent choice in going with Respeed too.  They have great products, and Billy will take great care of you.  I owe every win to Sterling and Billy.  Smiley

Hi all, I'm Luke from Brisbane, 23, owned my first rotor (a red S2 RX7) back in high school, and recently bought a rare convertible model and have definitely caught the bug again. I've got a part time job and going back to uni this year so dont have much spare money to spend on my car, but plenty of time.. Been pulling things apart and figuring them out, enjoying it a lot.

Anyway looking forward to learning more about carbs and chatting with you all.  Smiley

Hi, Everyone;

I'm Glen, living in Southern California. I've had my 80 GS for a little over 20 years, and am locked in constant and never ending battle with keeping it smog-compliant. Thank you Governor Conan - - until Ahnold changed the laws a couple of years ago, 2010 would have finally been the year I achieved smog amnesty.

I'm not bitter.

Married, no kids, work as an engineer for a company that does commercial/industrial/government physical security system. Vetern, from quite along time ago.

Welcome, everyone!
I know a lot about the Nikki carburetor, but I do NOT know a lot about the whole emissions system. I will try to gather info and do some R&D this season in order to find jetting & idle tuning settings that can be used on a modified Nikki that will pass emissions testing. Of course, many variables that I cannot control will have to be taken into account; the worst being how strict the PPM testing is is Californica.

My name is Darrell Button. I'm 50 years old and I had my first RX7 in 1982. Because of finances I had to sell it to a guy after only having it a few months. I fell in love with it at the time, and have wanted one ever since. My son is getting ready to go to college, and he is taking my wife's car. I asked her if she would like an RX7 and she said sure. So I found one in OK City, it had been setting for 17 years in some guys field, and was really rough. It is an 82 GSL. I have been working on it since November 5 of 2009. That was when the demolition began. I'm at the poing now that I have all of the mechanical stuff done, except I need to rebuild the carb, replace the interior, and paint it. I'm going to stay with the silver exterior, but I'm switching to a gray interior.

Here is my question, who makes the best carb rebuild kit, and where can I purchase one?
Thanks for listening,
Darrell

Hello everyone! I recognize alot of you here from the RX-7 Club. My name is Ray, I'm 43 yrs. young Smiley, I've got 4 kids not counting my "babies"(7's), 3 boys ages 18,12 and 10 and a lovely spoiled daughter that's soon to be 5. I'm a remodeling contractor, I do custom work and most everything else. My dad is what we used to call a "Master Mechanic", so I grew up building Hot Rods. He actually designed and built the testing setup Kamatsu and others use to test thier hydraulics. Anyhow, I'm not nearly the mechanic he is, but I like to tinker too. I just got into the rotaries in the last year, even though I did have 2 SA's years ago, I'd never turned a wrench on one. I've got an 83 gs parts car, 2 84 gs's and an 85 gs for the wife. I live up here in raint Washington state, which severely hampers my tinkering. LOL  I've already got a small collection of 12a motors etc. to play with, including a stock and a street ported twin dizzy motor. Have a DCOE, DHLA, IDF, and several different years of Nikkis to play with. A Sterling is on my wish list and a Holly and IDA to round out the options. Wink Well, just wanted to say "HI" and a little intro before I jumped into the deep water. Well met all!

Hello everyone, my name is Hector. I've been living in Ohio north of Cincinnati since '93. Before that I was in the Army for 8 years. While in Oklahoma a buddy of mine's introduced me to the Mazda rotary cars and scene. I bought an '83 GS and sold it after several months. In '95 I bought an '84GSL which I kept till '00 when I bought a Triumph motorcycle.  The wife had a '1 toy' rule. Now I'm divorced and living with a really cool lady who used to work at service departments at a couple of dealers here and doesn't have a '1 toy rule'. I'm looking at getting another 7 soon. I found this site like others through the RCC. I just posted my intro there and also questions about an '85GSL that I test drove this weekend. I'll be posting them here also.
