I feel your pain

But don't kick yourself to hard.

That won't make the list of the ten most stupid or costly screw-ups.

Thanks Orion, it's my understanding that the spacer's mating surfaces to the manifold and carb are of rubber so they are a gasket and additional gaskets will raise the carb which I now have compared to before.

That's right folks, I started my own thread just to piss and moan and whine like a bitchy little teenage girl.

I have spent approximately a shitload of money on my car this year, and as only a few of you know, I barely got to drive it. For starters, I know I'm not the only one that never gets to drive their baby but it's my thread and we're talking about me  :Smiley . I spent every free moment at home wrenching on her. I skipped the gym, which as a trucker I NEED to go to just so I don't look like a tub of shit. I stopped playing my guitar and while I wasn't very good, I was learning some stuff that I now have completely forgotten. I haven't been to a single race. The rundown: entirely new suspension, steering, engine, e-fan/controller, battery relocated, modified header as well as probably a few hundred bucks in odds and ends that we never calculate but still eats at the bottom line. I spent so much time being all excited about what it was going to be like to drive her and every time I went back to work and the car still wasn't moving was like a kick in the teeth. I actually got to the edge. I wanted to get it running and sell it. I was actually sick of being near it. Wrenching used to be my spa. It relaxed me, gave me something to put my mind on and focus and allowed me to get some satisfaction for completing a task which is a feeling I don't get at my job. This car ate up so much of my time this year that I can actually say this was the most useless summer of my adult life. The most exciting thing I've done this year is break down in Michigan. Thanks to Kentetsu for making it bearable and helping out. The car has now been parked until I can find replacement struts and get it back together. I won't even bother putting it on the road until spring. I'm not missing another Deals Gap Rotary Rally. I've never done so much work and experienced such little reward for it. And drum roll folks, here's where I throw myself under the bus. The car is parked because -I- overtightened the wheel bearings and they welded themselves to the spindles. I have no business doing my own work. I put on brand new... EVERYTHING, and managed to fuck up wheel bearings. Ugh. I must like learning lessons the hard way.

Make sure the carb spacer doesn't have the old gaskets still stuck to it. It's almost not noticeable, and for the longest time I though my spacer didn't have any gaskets, but I finally took a closer look and they are there.

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I'll take a guess and check my notebook when I get home in about 8 days. I think 23 primary air, 55 fuel, and 63 or 65 secondary fuel, and most likely whatever secondary air you sent it to me with. I've spent tons of time messing with fuel jets and have only changed the air bleeds on the primaries and only a couple of times. I've never been able to feel a difference so I'll save messing with the air for the dyno. I haven't touched the timing yet. Was planning to but then ran into an issue. Unfortunately due to my shitty front wheel bearing installation I'm now looking for new front strut housings and the car is parked until spring. I got a whole 1000km out of it this year.

Could not having this part cause any of the two problems I've got?

1. Starts fine and runs smooth but after a little while starts missing/stumbling.

2. High Idle. I had to set the idle higher via the Idle Speed screw to keep it from stalling.

This car had been sitting for some time so I don't know if the carb had been messed with before I rebuilt it. I also put the two gaskets above and below the carb spacer which I'm thinking of taking out.

Thanks for the response.

orion, what's your current jet configuration?

Hi Duane,

Holley "Dominator Air Bleeds" are actually 10-32 threaded, 1/4" crowned jets that fit nearly perfectly into the Nikki as fuel jets, even though the Nikki is Metric.
As far as what Yaw used as air bleeds, I've rebuilt five Yaws and have seen three different types of jets used, but I've never seen a Yaw with emulsion tubes tapped to accept the Holley jets mentioned. I do this primarily because the fuel & air jets are then interchangeable, and you can purchase a reasonably small range of jets to cover all of your needs. I do not know of another jet source for Yaw's configurations.

That being said, I must say that .078 fuel jets are HUUUUUGE, and I've only ever used as high as .076 secondaries in a drag carb application in one of my Sterlings. Did you get this carb directly from Yaw with that jetting configuration?

Sorry, but Mazdaverx7 from OhioRotaries doesn't know the Nikki carb very well.
That's the weight from underneath the flat brass screw on the outter most edge of the secondary side of the carb, under the air horn. It goes to the richer solenoid.
